About Public Services Beginnings...

Originally divided into two separate service providers the Public Utilities and Public Works Divisions were unified under one management umbrella in 1997, creating the Public Services Department. Operating from several facilities throughout the City the department's management is headquartered at its administration building located at 17050 N.E. 19th Avenue.

The City's roots as a utility began in the mid 1940's when it decided to become a water provider. From about 1945 to date, it purchased numerous water companies and the distribution infrastructure, which now make it the second largest water provider in Miami-Dade County.
