Since the mid 1940's, North Miami Beach has owned and operated the Norwood Water Treatment Plant. The facility has grown to provide services to over 180,000 residents in Northern Miami-Dade County, making North Miami Beach the second largest water utility in the County.

In order to meet increasing drinking water regulations and water system demands of the growing population, the expansion of the Norwood Water Treatment Plant was proposed, approved and now completed. The city's water utility, along with other utilities nationwide, has taken the necessary steps to expand the facility and further improve the quality of water our customers drink.

The Norwood Water Treatment Plant Expansion Program expanded the existing water treatment plant from a treatment capacity of approximately 16-million gallons per day to approximately 32-million gallons per day. Among the improvements in the project are: the construction of approximately 15-million gallon per-day of membrane treatment capacity, Biscayne and Floridan Aquifer water supply well fields, a concentrate disposal deep injection well, remote potable water storage and pumping facilities, as well as additional water distribution system infrastructure for the conveyance of potable water.

The expansion program was complteted in 2007.
