The Solid Waste Management Division is responsible for the collection, transportation and disposal of the City's residential and commercial garbage, trash and some recyclable materials. The City uses state of the art automated equipment for collection and provides containers. Alley collection is also available in some neighborhoods.


Bulk Trash and Yard Waste
Bulk trash and yard waste are collected once per month in the City's residential neighborhoods. For more information on bulk trash including a map and schedule, please download the bulk trash brochure.

Residential Curbside Recycling
The City of North Miami Beach offers residential curbside recycling every other Wednesday. This program is available through an interlocal agreement with Miami-Dade County. Residential Garbage Regulations, Map and Schedules

Please take a few moments to read over these easy to remember regulations regarding the automated refuse collection system. This system uses the latest collection equipment available and provides maximum efficiency at minimum customer expense. We want to provide excellent service to you and would appreciate you cooperation.

Collection Schedule
Containers are picked up twice a week throughout the year, excluding some holidays. Call the Solid Waste Division for the holiday pick-up schedule at (305) 948-2904.

Acceptable Household Waste
Garbage must be bagged and consist of all normal household waste. Contents must fall freely from the container when dumped. Acceptable household waste include: waste paper, plastic packaging and cans, food scraps and other assorted free-flowing garbage.

Unacceptable Waste
Yard clippings, dirt or sod, rocks, concrete, toxic materials, highly flammable materials, construction and remodeling debris will not be accepted.

Care & Maintenance
Garbage containers are provided by the City to homeowners at no charge. Homeowners are responsible for normal care and cleaning. The Department of Public Services will repair all damaged containers except damages due to negligence or abuse by the homeowner. In the event of a theft or a loss of a container, the homeowner must file a police report.

Type Of Container to be Used
Each home is provided with a City 95-gallon container. This type of container can be serviced by the City’s automated trucks.

Please remember that the 95-gallon container is assigned to the property address. Should you change residences, call the Public Services Department Solid Waste Division at (305) 948-2904 for further instructions before moving.

Where Do I Place My Container For Collection?
Place your 95-gallon container with handle facing your house and positioned at the edge of the paved traffic lane, at least five (5) feet from obstructions such as fences, lampposts, mailboxes or vehicles. DO NOT BLOCK PEDESTRIAN ACCESS.

Alley Collection
For alley collection behind your home, the container must be placed behind your property in the alley with the handle facing your house. You may leave the container in the alley behind your property, or roll it into your back yard, but the container must be placed in the alley on your pick-up day by 6:30 a.m.

When Do I Place My 95-Gallon Container Out For Collection?
You risk missing your pick-up if you do not place your container our for collection by 6:30 a.m. on your scheduled pick-up day. The container will not be emptied if it is not outside by the specified time and placed properly at the edge of the street with the handle facing your home. Do not place your container out any earlier than 6:00 p.m. on the day before pick-up. If you have street pick-up schedule, your container should be moved back to your property by 7:00 p.m. on your pick-up day.

What is the Difference Between Garbage and Trash?
In the solid waste industry garbage includes household waste such as waste paper, plastic packaging and cans, food scraps, and other loose items. Trash includes large bulky items such as yard waste and leaves clippings, and furniture.

Special Collection
The Solid Waste Division will schedule a special collection pick-up for household appliances and dead animals on right-of-ways.

Special Pull-Outs
For residents with disabilities, special pull-out containers are available. (show picture of the container/unit) A doctor’s note is required.

What To Do During A Hurricane?
During a hurricane, residents should either bring the garbage can inside a closed area or fill the container with water. Objects that are not secured can easily become a projectile under the strong winds present during a hurricane.

Construction Materials
To properly dispose of construction material, call the Miami-Dade County Dump Site at (305) 594-1500.
