Residential Curbside Recycling
Comes to North Miami Beach

Times have changed and so have the recycling processes. Today, it’s easier than ever to adopt beneficial recycling habits in your home.

Through an interlocal agreement between the City of North Miami Beach and Miami-Dade County, a new residential curbside recycling program was kicked off in October 2010. The blue recycling bins were delivered to residences ranging in size from single family homes up to quadplex apartments.

Each recycling bin was delivered with an accompanying packet of information that included a calendar, a recycling do’s and don’ts brochure, some stickers to remind you of when your recycling day is and what you should and shouldn’t recycle.

Bottom line is, all single, duplex, triplex and quadplex households in the city will be able to recycle right from the curb. This is a big change from having to haul items to over to one of the city’s recycling centers. Now it’s as easy as rolling it to the curb in front of your house. If your house has an alley, you will still need to place the blue recycling bin out in front of your house because the recycling trucks will not fit down the alleys.

What if I live in a large apartment complex or condo?

When's Your Day?
Recycling materials should be placed all together into the blue bin and wheeled out to the curb every other Wednesday. Pick up dates are listed in the events link on the City of North Miami Beach's website.

Forgot what your recycle day?
It’s as simple as calling 3-1-1 and the county will provide that information to you. You can also sign up for text alerts through the Miami-Dade website at:

Single Stream Recycling
Today recycling is single stream recycling. All recyclable items go into one bin and the sorting is done at the recycling plant. Gone are the days of separating items into different bins. There is no longer a need to spend hours trying to remove labels and sorting items by type.

Sure, you still should rise out a container before placing it into the recycling bin, but that doesn’t mean you have to sanitize it in the process. Just a quick rinse—to keep the odor away—will do.

With advancements in the recycling process, today you can recycle more than you ever imagined possible:

  • A majority of the paper/cardboard packaging used today for items such as cereal, pasta, frozen foods boxes can be recycled.
  • Glass containers such as mayonnaise jars, spaghetti sauce jars and similar glass containers can be recycled. Don't forget that glass beverage containers can be recycled, too! The type of glass that won't be accepted by the recycling facility would be mirrors, windows (whole or broken), pyrex glass or any type of glass cooking container.
  • All metal and aluminum cans are recyclable. Aluminum is the superhero of recycling and that can you recycled today and be a new aluminum can and back on the shelves as a new product in around eight weeks.
  • You may have always known that newspapers could be recycled. But did you know you can recycle phone books, magazines, catalogs and junk mail? Yes, all that junk mail now has a place to call home.
